Response to the Nashville Shooting: One Month Later

In today's episode we break down the response from political leaders, the media and from "everyday" citizens. How has response to this incident been the same or different than past shootings?

SCROLL DOWN TO TAKE THE POLL BELOW!

By the time of this posting, it has been exactly a month since the Nashville shooting.

As usual, time and attention span has moved quickly on. But I think it’s a worthwhile reflection now, after some time has gone by, to analyze how this mass shooting was reacted to by leadership, media and activists over the last several weeks.

I’m joined again today by Meseidy Riveria from It’s Meseidy.

This is another long conversation. :) We started out saying we weren’t going to talk for 2 hours…oops! We cover a lot of good ground though! And hope you enjoy thinking through this topic with us.

Below are a few of the questions we work through.

  • How was the reaction the same?

  • How was it different?

  • What has the response been from activists?

  • Was the difference in reaction discernible? And why does it matter?

  • How did we get here? What is the “quiet out loud” here?

  • How long before a community is no longer considered marginalized?

  • How have critical theory and intersectionality determined how we are expected to respond differently to tragedies depending on race, religion, or LGBT?

Oh. And we’re still waiting on a manifesto.

Please give us feedback!
